Weddings on the Costa del Sol are changing shape. Couples are dropping the parts of the day that exist only because tradition says so, and spending the budget on what guests actually remember. Below are the ten trends we keep seeing at weddings in Marbella and across Málaga province — and, at the end, the practical numbers if a photo zone is on your list.
The single biggest shift. Instead of following a fixed running order, couples start from what they actually enjoy and build the evening around it. A ceremony at seven because the light is better. Dinner in three long courses because nobody wants to rush. Their own music instead of the standard first-dance track.
Everything else on this list follows from that one decision.
The old model asked guests to sit and watch. The new one gives them something to do: a mixing station, a live cooking corner, a photo zone, lawn games before dinner. Guests who are doing something talk to each other, and a wedding where guests talk to each other is the one people describe as good.
This matters more here than in most places. A Marbella wedding routinely brings together the couple’s Spanish family, friends from the UK and guests from a third country, and half the room has never met the other half.

Guests film the day whether you plan for it or not, so the question is only whether what they film looks good. Couples now think about that in advance: a styled corner with decent light, a backdrop that photographs well, something that gives a clip a beginning and an end.
The 360 video booth is the clearest example — the platform spins around the guest, records in slow motion with the venue behind them, and the clip reaches their phone in seconds. Those videos are online before the party finishes.
Photo booths, magic mirrors, AI booths and 360 platforms have moved from novelty to standard. They work because they do two things at once: they entertain during the gaps, and they produce something the guest takes home.
We cover the formats and which suits which event in why a photo booth is essential at any event.
Clean tables, restrained palette, then one element that carries the whole room: an oversized floral installation, a single dramatic light, a mirrored backdrop. It photographs better than maximalism and costs less, because the money goes into one thing instead of fifty.
After several years of beige everything, colour has returned — terracotta, deep green, burgundy, and on this coast a lot of Mediterranean blue. The difference from a decade ago is that the palette is picked to suit the venue and the light rather than a trend board.
Fewer scheduled announcements, fewer forced group activities, longer stretches where guests simply enjoy themselves. That puts more weight on self-serve entertainment: things guests can use whenever they feel like it, without waiting for someone to call them over.
Local suppliers, seasonal flowers, less printed paper, fewer single-use decorations. Part of it is environmental and part of it is practical: a local supplier already knows the venue, the access and the power situation, which removes a whole category of problems on the day.
Forty to eighty guests instead of two hundred, with the saved budget going into food, comfort and detail. A photo zone works particularly well at this size: with forty people everyone uses it several times, and you end up with a portrait of every single person who came.

The photograph couples frame is almost never the staged one. It is the one where somebody is laughing badly. Planning for that means leaving room for it: fewer set pieces, more moments where people are simply together and the cameras happen to be there.
Since this is the part of the list people ask us about: hire starts at €400 for three hours, and the price is the same anywhere in the province of Málaga — Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Málaga city or Nerja, with no travel surcharge. The sequin backdrop, gold or silver, is €150 on top.
Included in the base price: unlimited photos and prints, instant printing, a print frame designed around your wedding, props, an operator who stays for the whole event, and the full digital gallery afterwards. The detailed breakdown is in what photo booth hire costs on the Costa del Sol.

Three by three metres is comfortable: the booth takes about a square metre, the backdrop is 2.5 by 2.5 metres, and the rest is for guests and the props table. Nothing we bring is taller than 1.8 metres. Setup takes about an hour and happens before guests arrive, and one normal socket is enough.
Outdoor venues — terraces, gardens, beach clubs — work as long as there is a covered area and power, because the equipment and printer do not cope with damp or strong wind. As soon as the venue and date are confirmed. Spring and summer Saturdays go first on this coast.
