Photo Booth Hire for Birthdays and Private Parties in Marbella

A birthday or a private party is a different job from a wedding. There is no timeline printed on a card, no toastmaster keeping people in their seats, and no photographer booked for eight hours. Guests arrive in waves, the music starts before half of them are there, and the part everybody remembers happens somewhere between the cake and the last song. A photo booth fits that kind of evening better than almost anything else you can rent, because it works without a programme: it sits in the corner, it is always open, and it gives every guest something to take home.

We are Pic Me Spain, and we have been running photo booths at private events in Marbella and across the province of Málaga for more than five years. This guide covers what actually matters when you book one for a birthday, a name day, an anniversary, a housewarming or any party at home or at a rented venue: price, space, timing, and the small practical questions that come up the week before.

Why a photo booth works at a birthday party

At a wedding, guests are strangers who become acquaintances. At a birthday, they already know each other, and that changes what a booth does. Nobody needs an icebreaker. What they want is a reason to be photographed together, properly, with the people they only see twice a year.

Three things happen reliably at private parties. First, the booth absorbs the awkward hour. There is always a stretch between the first arrivals and the moment the party really starts, and a lit booth with props gives early guests something to do. Second, it produces printed photos. A phone photo is seen once; a print goes on a fridge and stays there. Third, it collects the whole guest list. By the end of the night you usually have every person who came standing in front of the same backdrop, which no photographer gets at an informal party.

It also solves the problem of the host who never appears in any photo. If you organised the party, you spend it refilling glasses — the booth catches you anyway.

What it costs and what is included

Our price for a private party starts at 400 € for three hours. That price is the same across the whole province of Málaga — Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Málaga city, Mijas, the inland villages. There is no travel surcharge for being far from the coast road, which matters if your party is at a finca up in the hills rather than at a beach club.

The three hours include the booth itself, an attendant who stays for the whole session, unlimited photos during that time, prints on the spot, a props box, the standard backdrop, and a digital gallery of every shot afterwards. Setup and takedown happen outside the three paid hours, so you are not paying for us to carry flight cases.

The one common add-on is the live flower backdrop at 150 €. It replaces the standard backdrop with a greenery-and-flower wall, and it is the single change that makes the photos look like they came from a styled event rather than a party. For a milestone birthday — a thirtieth, a fiftieth, a golden anniversary — it is usually worth it. For a relaxed garden party in July, the standard backdrop is fine.

If you want the full breakdown of what drives the price up or down across the Costa del Sol, we wrote it out in detail in our guide to photo booth hire costs on the Costa del Sol.

How much space you need

This is the question that decides whether a booth works in your living room or not, and it is easy to answer with a tape measure.

We need a clear area of 3 × 3 metres and a ceiling of at least 1.8 metres — that is the height of the tallest piece of equipment. The backdrop itself is 2.5 × 2.5 metres. Three by three sounds like a lot until you measure it: roughly the footprint of a dining table with the chairs pushed in. In most villas it is a corner of the terrace, or the far end of the living room with one sofa moved.

What matters more than the raw floor area is what is behind and beside the three metres. The booth needs a normal power socket within reach of an extension lead, and it needs guests to be able to walk up to it and away from it without crossing the dance floor. A booth wedged into a dead-end corner gets used half as much as the same booth placed where people naturally pass.

Outdoor parties work well here from spring to autumn, with two conditions: firm, reasonably level ground, and a backdrop out of open wind. A covered terrace, porch or courtyard is ideal. Grass is fine; a steep slope is not.

Setup takes about an hour. We arrive before guests, not with them, so plan the access — a gate code, a lift, a parking space — rather than the timing.

Classic booth, magic mirror or 360?

For a private party the choice is mostly about what you want people to leave with.

A classic photo booth prints. It is the right choice for family birthdays, for parties with a wide age range, and for anyone who wants physical photos to hand out. Grandparents use it without instructions.

A magic mirror is a full-length mirror that photographs you while you see yourself. Groups like it because everyone can check their own pose, and it suits parties where guests are dressed up.

A 360 booth records a slow orbiting video rather than a photo. It is built for parties where the footage is going straight to social media, and it is the best fit for a thirtieth or a big summer party with music. It needs more clear floor space around it than a static booth, so mention it when you tell us about the venue.

We compared all three side by side, with the trade-offs, in 360 booth, magic mirror or classic photo booth.

When the booth should open

Three hours is enough for almost any private party, but where you place those three hours changes how much use you get.

The common mistake is opening the booth at the start. The first forty minutes of a party are quiet, people are still greeting each other, and the booth stands empty while the clock runs. The second mistake is opening it only after the cake, when a third of the guests with small children have already left.

What works at a typical evening party: open the booth about forty-five minutes after the stated start time, once there is a crowd and the first drinks are done. That puts the busiest hour of the booth right around the cake and the toasts, and leaves the last hour running into the dancing, which is when the funniest photos happen.

For a daytime party — a lunch, a pool party, a children’s birthday with parents staying — open it earlier, straight after the food. Daytime parties peak sooner and finish sooner.

Where we travel

We cover Marbella and the entire province of Málaga at the same price. In practice most private parties we do are in Marbella, Nueva Andalucía, San Pedro, Estepona, Fuengirola, Mijas, Benalmádena, Torremolinos and Málaga city, plus villas inland towards Coín, Ojén and Istán.

If your party is in Marbella itself, our photo booth rental in Marbella page has the local detail. For the western and eastern ends of the coast we have separate guides for Fuengirola and for Benalmádena and Torremolinos.

Note that Sotogrande sits in the province of Cádiz rather than Málaga, so the single-province price does not automatically apply there — ask us and we will quote it.

Booking a party booth: the short version

Tell us the date, the postcode or the venue name, the start time of the party, and roughly how many guests. From that we can confirm availability and tell you within the same conversation whether the space works, which booth we would recommend, and what time we would open it.

Two things worth deciding early: whether you want the flower backdrop, and whether the party is indoors or outdoors. Everything else can be settled the week before.

Frequently asked questions

Can you set up a photo booth in a private home?

Yes, and it is a large share of what we do. We need a clear 3 × 3 metre area, 1.8 metres of height and a power socket. A terrace, a garage or the end of a living room all work.

How many photos can guests take?

There is no limit during the booked hours. Guests use the booth as often as they like, prints come out on the spot, and every image goes into the digital gallery you receive afterwards.

Is three hours enough for a birthday party?

For most private parties, yes — three well-placed hours cover the arrival crowd, the cake and the first part of the dancing. If your party runs all night, extra hours can be added when you book.

Do you charge extra to come to a village away from the coast?

No. The price is the same anywhere in the province of Málaga, inland included. Only venues outside the province are quoted separately.

Can we use our own props or a theme?

Yes. We bring a props box, and you are welcome to add your own — a milestone-age sign, a club scarf, a family in-joke. Tell us the theme in advance and we will match the props we bring.

What if it rains?

The equipment does not go out in rain, so for outdoor parties we agree a covered fallback position when we discuss the space — a porch, a covered terrace or a room indoors. Deciding it in advance takes two minutes and saves the evening.

How far in advance should we book?

Summer weekends and December fill first; for those, several weeks ahead is sensible. Midweek and off-season parties can often be arranged at shorter notice. If your date is close, ask anyway.

Ready to book your party?

Five years of private parties across the province, a 5.0 rating on Google, and a booth that needs three square metres and an hour of our time to set up. Send us your date and we will tell you straight away whether it is free.
